How do we respond when our world is burning….

It's ok to feel weird.

Whether you are amongst it or watching the news far away. It's here.

The climate is changing.

It has been here for a while. But we humans have a habit of only REALLY paying attention when it's RIGHT here. When it's effecting us. Never mind the droughts in far away places that have been occurring consistently in recent years. Now it's on us, on me.

And I’m scared.

We're scared.

We might not feel like we're scared.

We might be feeling a bit numb, a bit irritable, just a bit off, unproductive and not knowing what to do. Signs of emotional overwhelm.

I mean it would make sense we're overwhelmed right? On and innate, survival, species level, we feel threatened, by something that we cannot control (as individuals - collectively is a different matter). We do not know what our future looks like. We do not know what the world is turning into. This scares us immensely…

but we find ways to distract from that fear.

This is an urge to feel the grief, feel the feelings, acknowledge the fear, or whatever it is that is coming up. For me, it's so hard not to numb out. But to numb is to avoid and to avoid is to do nothing. Art is where I can meet my feelings and see that they are there, to interact and process what otherwise will stay inside and ripple out it ways I don’t consent to.
